These images were made in Poland in the heart of winter. When the snow is abundant, it accumulates under the cars and then detaches itself in blocks.
These ephemeral sculptures of snow tinted with carbon dioxide are allegories of climate change : Within living memory, winters in Poland are becoming milder and snow is becoming scarcer; and CO2 production of cars is one of the major causes of this change.
The mauve colour of the pictures is an unintentional effect due to the use of a diapositive film that turned out to be expired. Mauve is a blend of a cold colour – blue – and of a warm colour – red – and thus adds to the allegory of the image.
