Spontane Kalzifizierung – or ‘’spontaneous calcification’’ in English – was an in situ installation in a cave : the reconstitution of a childhood remembrance where animals fallen into a petrifactive river were transformed into stone. Fish were chosen in order to incarnate the paradox of a sudden petrification, whereas calcification is a very slow process.
The flesh was removed and served during diners throughout the preparation of the exhibition. The fish were tanned and stuffed then worked on with limestone.
